Sabah Trip Day 1 - Is all about food!

Another airport flying trip after almost a year, and this time with the family! Too bad brother is not joining for this trip as he's busy with assignments and classes. This time to the East of Malaysia, Sabah! Passport not required this time.

Flight from KUL to BKI takes around 2 hours and 35 minutes. We had our usual breakfast at Subway airport which is the cheapest option of all.

Reaching there is already 12.30pm, after getting our car an auto Proton Saga (we rent before hand paying an amount of deposit), we head straight to Kuo Man restaurant for lunch! Oh, we got a good deal from Grendline Travel for the car fee paying a total of RM345. They charge us RM100 for each day and RM15 for each extra hour (bargain is allowed through Whatsapp on the off-peak season).

Kuo Man restaurant located at Jalan Tuaran is famous for their beef. We spent a total of RM59 for 5 bowls of noodles and 3 drinks. One bowl of noodles price range around RM8 - 12, this restaurant is actually on the expensive side but the portion is big and not arguable. Kota Kinabalu price is expensive anyway, seafood is however cheaper.
Wat Tan Hor

Beef Fried Kuey Teow

Beef Balls Kuey Teow Soup

This is the best! Their meat is so tender and soft, it literally melts in the mouth.
Ngau Lam Mian

We ordered their homemade chrysanthemum tea and also two cups of milk with cincau and cendol. The milk wins it all, doesn't know that they match so good together, back here in West Malaysia we often mix cincau with soy milk.

Passby Keng Wan Hing to buy ourselves some bread for tomorrow breakfast. The bread selling here is the boom! Though we left it overnight, it still tastes so so good and fluffy. Look the queue! On our first visit, we managed to buy only kaya kok and polo bread (surprisingly contain pineapple jam in it) as others are all sold out and are still continuously baking in the oven. We are rushing time hence we buy 5 of each variety left. Kaya kok for RM1.20 each and polo bun for RM1.40 each. We went back to buy more varieties of it the other day in the morning without troublesome of the long queue to bring on the flight.

Passing by Jalan Sulaman, Tuaran, the street vendor located just beside the road selling coconut pudding, coconut bakar and lokan is a must try! No regrets at all though the cleanliness and hygiene here are questionable and people might get food poisoning if their immune is low. But I tried to ignore it as much as I can as to enjoy the food to the max with very cheap price and tasting some difference.

Coconut bakar RM5

Coconut pudding RM6

The fresh coconut big in size with the price is really worthy, very fresh and sweet to drink. Not to forget the coconut pudding super cooling, tasted still a lot like coconut, not vanilla essence. Suitable for kids and adults, very refreshing. While coconut bakar is grilled coconut grill on firewood till the outer layer are burnt turning to dark brown colour. The coconut is served hot and it tastes weird with a bit of caramelised taste. Something different to try but I personally prefer the fresh coconut more.

BBQ clam! This is really nice and cheap! Must order must order *scream* Portion this big costing only RM10? Their sauce is unique too!
Lokan sederhana RM10

We later went to Tamparuli suspension bridge to take a photo but it's actually a very usual bridge the people there used daily. As there's only one-way bridge for car road and car can only drive through either one direction, you gotta wait for your turn, it test your patience.

Lastly not to miss this Tamparuli noodles, it still tasted so so good after 3+ hours of tapau (take away). It's homemade egg noodles like the economy noodles we had with a bit of vegetable, a bit of egg and a bit of char siew (roasted meat). It's quite a big portion of noodles and I believe it will tastes a lot better when it's served hot. Bought this from Wun Chiap restaurant, highly recommend though it's really a normal looking food court, don't judge a book by its cover. Eat this only after reaching our stay at Mesilou, Kundasang around 2+ hours journey from Tamparuli town. Our stay is awesome, located below KK Hill with cooling weather and beautiful view. Eating this with a hot cup of Sabah tea for dinner, an awesome combination! (because the weather is way too awesome!!!!) *scream*

Note that they are famous for their wild boar meat too, they called it the Sinalau Bakas, there are few stalls on the way, do stop by and try. I didn't to try these dish anyway.
