This is the first place we are brought to the Equator monument also known as Tugu Khatulistiwa. It is built by using ironwood which is so strong acting like a stone. This monument is to recognise the zero degrees latitude which separates the earth into half. They said that when you stand at the location at 12 noon, you find no shadow of yours. Something fascinating, you can go and try. There's no admission fee required. You can find more information about that here. Oh, by the way, some renovation and building is going on, the road might be bumpy.
Next the Kapuas River. Just google Pontianak river and Kapuas river will be on the screen. It is the longest river in Indonesia length at around 1143km. As you can see from a few photo below, this river separates two lands and it is connected by a bridge or you can cross the river via ferry.
This river is important for the village here. You can see them washing clothes and even bath there. The kids can already swim in this deep river since young age. You find how amazing this river bring smile and laughter to them. They love photography and smile for every shot you took. Innocent kids with carefree life. I come here quite often for sightseeing, canoe and maybe surfing. Life here is just awesome for some relaxation.
This is the carbide canon along the Kapuas river. I'm told that it will be fired and light up during the Muslim festival for Eid al-Fitr celebrating and welcoming a new year. It is crowded and bustling with noise. I come one month late to have watch this scenery.
Us, the committee and exchange participant on a boat along the river.
This is the Keraton Kadriah, the place where the sultanate stay. Listen a little about the history here and how the name Pontianak came. Keraton Kadriah and Masjid Jami was said to be the first building found in Pontianak city. We were welcomed by their traditional dance.
On a side note, you need to wear long pants to enter this palace. Red first time wearing sarong.
Batik in making with the committee. Melting the wax they called it malam while he's trying to explain the step on making batik. We are given a white fabric to draw on it and we will later try to trace it by filling the canting with malam. The last step is to colour it with fabric colour.
Last stop for this week, the aloe vera center. They have different species of aloe vera, some are big, some with torn and etc. It's refreshing :)
Aloe vera is being served! Bought the right ones which taste differently as it's a mixture with lime, they claimed that it's a healthy drink.

Carefree kids swinging on a swing after school. I love how innocent they look. How will the world be if everyone live a good life with no bad intention.
They have also sort of aquarium and flower plantation center.
This ends my first report on this project.
