It was last month where my parents decided to come and visit me in Penang, whee! I desperately need an escape before exam starts and I'm really happy that they come all the way to the North.
So, here's the first stop having seafood as dinner by the seaside. And after that spend the whole night beside the beach watching sunset.
The next day, we wake up early to Chaw Choon, Raja Uda for dim sum breakfast. The food there is cheap, we have around 6 rounds of those food and it cost us only approximate 80 dollars.
And off we go travelling to the Penang island. We had our lunch here at Ang Hoay Lor, Jalan Perak recommended by my sister and her boyfriend. It's a small old restaurant with home style authentic feel. There's no catchy decoration nor beautiful dish set but the food is good. As it's a family business, the food is all served by elderly so you might need to spend some time waiting for the food to be served and place are very limited, they have only a few tables. Tips: Go early as soon as the restaurant open! We reach there before 12pm :)
This is our first dish, the bah kee soup. This are pork coated with flour and cooked in the soup along with some cabbage. The soup looks oily but it's definitely taste nice.
They called this tau kua suan na. The taufu is fried with prawns and lots of leeks. The taufu is fresh and it's different from the dry taufu we usually had. This dish is simple yet delicious.
This is the best among all other dishes. It's commonly known as oh chien or fried oyster omelette. The oyster is big and juicy, it perfectly blend into the corn starch and egg very well. This dish is different from the one you can get it elsewhere. The best oh chien I ever tasted.
We had our tea time at Mugshot cafe, Chulia Street. The cafe I wanted to visit for quite some time already. The decoration is nice but the stall is quite confusing as there's two more stall at the back and bakery at the side. Like other tourist, we ordered their bagel and yogurt as that's the signature of their shop. I was told that the bagels are freshly baked and the yogurt is a home-made once. We ordered the bagel muffin with cream cheese & smoked salmon while dad and mum ordered the bagel muffin with turkey ham and cranberry sauce. It was nice for me as I like both the cheese and salmon while mum's cranberry sauce matched perfectly with turkey ham which bring a little sweetness together with the bagel. We eventually wanted to order the walnut selection of yogurt but its sold out so we eventually go for the kiwi & honey. Will come again next time! The drink is good as compliment by my friend.
It's Penang, how can you miss out their hawker food! We randomly settled our dinner at the road side and my order of char kuay teow overall was just so so. It's quite sad to say that the char kuay teow in Penang is overrated as it always come with small portion and expensive price (almost all). Sigh
