Ah Blue爸爸素食便当

Like how the title speaks, it's all about lunch box or bento.

It's now the exam session for all University students. Everyone starts to crunch hard on their book, either visiting to the library or stuck in your room trying to dig out the notes, arrange it in accordance, and start spotting question and eliminate those tough ones cause you aren't have time to waste.

So, delivery food become a trend in the hostel either you order a set of Domino with your hostel mates or your own set meal. Note that Domino's Pizza is having their offer right now. Anyway, you will find more and more food delivery official web delivering good stuff food with no delivery fee charge such as DeliverEat and FoodPanda but with some condition of minimum spent per delivery where you need to order in bucks, not very much just portion for two or three people but not for individual.

Ordering food alone is always a problem. Either you have to pay for delivery fee or you couldn't reach the minimum spent set.

Here comes GOOD news for USM students. Yes, I have been ordering this vegetarian food since few weeks ago. Wanted to give a try and it turns out good. And this is the continuous ordering of mine from uncle.

Every day there will be a post regarding on the order, lunch is serve round 1pm and dinner around 6pm. You will just need to place your name on the comment with your contact number and place to collect your food which is your hostel. No, you don't have a menu. Uncle serve different vegetables everyday, you choose only to have artificial meat or no. Someone also ordered add rice, add gravy or artificial meat only, it's all up to you, it's your order :)

I snap a few of my orders, you can see different dish everyday. And the aroma of the food, very vege.
Seeing the food makes my saliva drip. Here's the link to the order Ah Blue爸爸素食便当订购区, its a secret group in facebook by the way. Maybe you need to sent request to the owner, I'm added by my friend.

All the best in exam!

JL Gourmet @ Prangin Mall

After stepping into my third year studying in Penang, never had I once visited Prangin Mall. This mall not to say is far from my school (not really far though 1 hour journey by rapid bus) but no one actually told me about it. Yes, I usually stuck in my school staying in school hostel with lots of cafe with variety of food choices to eat, not to say there's more restaurant nearby my school with walking distance. For shopping purpose, it's usually Queensbay or Gurney. So, that's all I know about Penang.

Prangin Mall is located near Komtar and First Avenue where they actually have bridge connecting this three buildings together. The inside of it much similar to Times Square in Kuala Lumpur where they have little shop selling up to date fashion clothes in cheap price.

There's one day where my friend and I decided to take a break from all sorts of test for a one day trip in Georgetown where we actually visited the Interactive Museum and Toy's Cafe. Which later ended up watching Mockingjay - Part 1 in First Avenue and some shopping in Prangin Mall.

We actually called our friend for dinner recommendation and JL Gourmet was where we ended up. My second visit to this cafe is less than a week with another friends of mine after the competition in Komtar.

This is a cafe located at the corner of third floor. The decoration is simple yet pleasant for dining while the food is delicious and cheap. You might want to have a try as their set meal cost only RM19.90 which include drinks, soup, main course and dessert.

There's a few choice of drinks you can choose from which is Peach tea, Lemon tea, Green tea, Orange juice and Mango juice.

There's three types of choice for soup which is their Signature Mushroom Soup, Tomato Soup and Broccoli Soup. I opted for Broccoli soup during my first visit and tried their signature mushroom soup during my second visit. I like how this soup taste, the texture wasn't as smooth as what you usually get as if it's blended from the actual ingredient and give you the real thick taste.
For main course, you have plenty variety to choose from western to local food, noodles to rice, and pasta to sandwich. You will need plenty of time to digest the whole set of menu if you are someone who can't decide what to eat or order.

During my first visit, I opted for Fish Fillet Caprice (fancy name). As I'm a fish person, I usually flip and read on the fish menu first. What capture my eyes is when I saw the word banana. Banana is my whole time favorite no matter it comes in what form. I actually ask about this dish on how it's being served (this is my first time seeing such combination), the waitress told me it's a fillet with sauce made from banana and mango chutney with fried banana. I told myself "Okay okay, this going to be wonderful".

After minutes of waiting, Tadaa! Yes yes, this taste delicious okay. I told myself I'm going to come here again for another surprising dish.
My second visit, I ordered myself Fish Cordon Bleu. This time after having chicken rice for lunch, I want something simple yet delicious. So, I try my luck again for fish dish.

I remembered the best Cordon Bleu I tasted was in Bandung, Indonesia dining in one of those best night sightseeing restaurant, I don't remember the exact place but the place is cosy and of course the food is expensive.

Anyway, this portion of Cordon Bleu I got here is huge. Maybe the angle wasn't right when I'm taking this photo but it's two times bigger than the Cordon Bleu you normally being served. So, lots of flesh (meat) where the cheese and ham inside needed to be dig. This comes with a cup full of french fries.
Friend's order on Seafood Cannelloni. It's definitely cheesy inside.
And another friend's choice of Chicken Piccata. A large portion serve with chicken and spaghetti.
The set meal ends with dessert serving which is ice cream. They have variety of ice cream taste for you to opt. I tried mint for both time will want to try the yam flavor next time. The ice cream is nice, it doesn't melt fast in the bowl serve (which from what I study is because of having emulsifier in it which also means fats in another word) XD

It was a pleasant meal afterall. Two times of visiting and feeling not enough, will love to come for the third time for different dishes.

*tsk tsk tsk*
我没眼看了

我其实没那么糟糕啦 :P

The Amazing Race: Race Towards Food Safety

Participated in a competition at Komtar last Thursday with a few of my coursemates, sort of representing the school as a student from food technology. The competition is basically treasure hunt where you have several game station located between the second floor to the fourth floor of Komtar. You are required to complete each station according to the hint given which include food regulation, food addictive, microbes, HACCP and others such as guessing and spelling. Pretty much something we learnt from our course but to translate it into Bahasa Malaysia. But for me, I couldn't remember a thing about those. I'm one of the typical Malaysian student where I study for exam but not knowledge. Yes, I feel guilty talking about it, will starts to learn and absorb.

We reached so much earlier before the competition actually starts. Here's a photo of us after getting our tag.
While awaiting for the organizer to calculate our marks from each station, they brought us to a Malay restaurant for lunch. My first time at a restaurant sitting at a corner labelled reserve. For your information, JKN PP stands for Jabatan Kesihatan Negeri Pulau Pinang. I'm honor to be one of the participant for this competition.
Here comes the most exciting session of the competition, the award time! There's only seven groups in this competition mainly two groups from USM and five groups from UiTM. The emcee started to announce the participants who got the seventh place. Note that there's hamper and prize for each group even you are the last. We are kind of anxious as we completed all the station pretty late, few of the last group to reach the last station. Here's a comparison of how late we are, when our seniors had completed all the stations, we had two more stations to figure out. We got so nervous where we actually heaved a sign of relief every time our group name is not being announced by the emcee. Yes, I know our opponent must hate us a lot for being overreacted but that's actually how we feel. Apparently we got third place and with no doubt our seniors got the first place. We won ourselves lots of tupperwares, bottles and bags while seniors won themselves a hard disk, bottles and bags.
Huimin left after she took her lunch as she had a Korean test in the afternoon therefore she's not there during the award ceremony. We have our prize snap in her room to show off how amazing it is. It's overall fun! Would love to join more competition in the future. And I would starts to crunch my book as much as I love food. Tests and assignment up next week, will need to dive into the nerd world.

Interactive Museum @ Georgetown, Penang

After two plus year studying in Penang, I finally visited the interactive museum with my coursemates with RM10 student ticket pass. The gallery is actually kind of small, make sure you choose the right time to visit or else you'll need to line up for photo shoot and of course people watching you posing while you snapping your photo. I don't like to pose and snap photo with people around me cause I don't think I'm beautiful in the first place and it's awkward for me to act, plus I'm shy *blush*. I'm a weirdo by the way, I love snapping photo of others as far as I know I don't look nice in photos but other part of me scream to get snap. *faint* you can ignore me

Anyway, I was kind of hyper that day, my friend sort of notice that. It's not about caffeine I'm pretty sure, as I visited the coffee shop only after this visit. I guess I just shocked them with another part of me, stay calm Jing :) So, here comes the photo.
Before you pay for your ticket, you can start snapping from the entrance :)
Tadaa, the counter! After paying for the ticket, you are good to enter :)
Finally a group photo of us
This man looks so real here
Will love to rent a bicycle and cycle around Penang one day. Bye for now, tata!

Toys Cafe @ Bishop Street, Georgetown

Accidentally bump into this cafe when we are finding a place for some chit chat corner in Georgetown. The moment you push open the door, the aroma of the coffee smell instantly triggers your nostril urging you to order yourself a cup of coffee. To be frank, I wasn't into coffee these days but I couldn't help myself from ordering a cup of coffee instead of just tea or yogurt drink. The owner said he had just change his order of coffee bean to Arabic bean, I have no idea about it but this definitely smell and taste good. Apart from that, it's an eye opener stepping into this cafe. The decoration of the cafe full of toys from doraemon to avengers, soft toy to toy models. If you are an animate lover or so, this is probably a place that you couldn't miss. It's like a free visit to the toy museum and you can snap as much picture as you want. The toy collection from this cafe reached more than hundred thousand dollars.
Tadaa, the owner working on our order from blending the coffee bean to drawing art on the plate. He is friendly, talk to him, he don't bite. You might get to choose the picture you want :)
Here comes our coffee. Our order of latte and cappuccino which range from RM8.90 to RM9.90; Mango passion yogurt for RM12.90; and both tiramisu and apple crunch cake which cost RM10.90 per piece.

What my friend holding is the avenger collection of the owner storing in his store room. Talk to him, you get to know more about this cafe and the whole toy set of his.
We later headed upstairs for more WOW! It's actually a mini store up there selling toys stuff open by his friend. Along the staircase, there's a lot of drawing drawn by the owner. It's pretty cool to own a shop and decorate your shop yourself, placing what you like and sharing it to the customer. Doing what you like, putting your interest as your job.
To own a coffee shop is not easy; coffee machine is expensive itself and it's requires certain skill to operate it.

Learning is a progress towards dream. You will find yourself one step closer to it :)
